SUMMARY AND SUGGESTIONS

            1.     Purpose of Practicum

     The purpose of the practicum is to create a good and professional teacher in the future from what the student teacher have learned in the  receiving university. From this program also, the exchange students can improve their knowledge as well as their teaching skills. Therefore, the goals of the practicum is to prepare a great teacher that can create bright future generations.

2.     Procedures of Practicum

The procedures of my practicum here are:

In the first week, I observed the classroom. The classroom observations consists of self-introductions, observations of how teacher begin the lessons, students’ responses, the methods used by the teacher, how the class is managed, how the classroom interactions, and how the teacher ended the class.

In the second and third week, I did my teaching observations and assistance. Here, I helped my cooperating teacher to assess the students’ performance, carried out quizzes, as well as give the class evaluations.

In the fourth week, I did my own lesson. I taught the students some chosen topics by using my methods as well as my teaching media.

3.     Outcomes of Practicum

The outcomes of the practicum are: I could improve my knowledge and skills.

1.     I could improve my English speaking skills

2.     I could know the students’ characteristics and learning styles

3.     I could improve my knowledge on how managing class as well as methods implementations

4.     I could improve my knowledge on how to create a good rapport and class atmosphere

4.     The Challenges in Practicum

The biggest challenge in my practicum was how to make the students communicate actively during the classroom discussion. But, I love this challenge. Here, the students still feel shy to state their ideas. It does not mean they are not smart. They do have brilliant ideas, but to state the ideas, they still feel doubt. Therefore, we as a teacher need to approach them. By giving emotional approach, touch their shoulder, gives support like in order to make them feel brave, give them rewards etc. It works, but it needs time. It will consume and affect to the other activities.

5.     Overall Impressions

My practicum in TAU-LS is the best experience that I ever had in my life. I was very excited, impressed, and very happy doing my teaching practice, because the students are very smart and talented. They have high motivations in their learning, they also are very competitive. I see the eagerness and willingness to be the ‘best version’ of themselves as a positive side. In every activities, they want to give their best and I do appreciate that. They always ask something in details ‘Ma’am, what should we do? Ma’am what kind of paper we use? Ma’am do we have to mention or describe it ? and so forth.  Overall, I am so happy meeting them.

However, regardless to every positive sides that I found during my practicum, I found some negatives sight such as the students are quite impolite and respect to the teachers. When the teacher came to the class, they are still busy and noisy. They did not greet the teacher because they are still busy with their own business.

          6. Suggestion for Future Improvement

                    I think my suggestions for future improvement are:

a.     To the school

To the school in which I did my practicum is provide adapter in classroom since it’s needed for teaching. And also, provide copy machine and printer near of the building so it’s easier for students to copy or print their needs.

b.     To the teacher

To the teacher, please be more friendly and easy to give hand.

c.      To the students

Please be more polite and please be more confident

d.     To SEAMEO (SEATEACHER)

 Please provide longer time for exchange student to practice their teaching practice, so that the exchange students could get more knowledge and experiences.
